Put IE6 out of its misery – A list of Anti IE6 Websites.

Internet Explorer 6 … The name sends shivers down web designers spines. The question is why do we keep pandering to the needs of an out of date browser that is almost 10 years old! Many people probably don’t know how old IE6 actually is, here is a list of things that IE6 is older than.

  • Windows XP
  • Facebook
  • Myspace
  • Google Adsense
  • iPod
  • Original XBox
  • Canon Digital SLR Cameras
  • The War in Iraq
  • East Timor
  • The list can go on forever…

Here I have collated some great sites that support the cause to put IE6 out of its misery.

Kill Bill’s Browser

http://crashie.ajaxmasters.com/

A great anti IE6 site that has a theme based on the popular movie Kill Bill. It has some funky ajax scripts to test what browser you’re using and if your using IE6 watch out, it might just crash on you.

Bring Down IE6

http://www.bringdownie6.com/

Bring Down IE6 is a more recent addition to the cause. It has a great web design to go with some awakening facts on just how out of date IE6 really is. Bring down IE6 provides a logo you can download and add to your website or email footer to spread the word.

Stop IE6 Campaign

http://www.stopie6.org/

This anti IE6 website has some great user generated comments and reasons for upgrading. It also offers a useful Javascript tutorial that urges you to add to your website and prompt visitors to upgrade to IE7 or download Firefox. There is also a slightly harsher version that displays a message saying the visitor is not welcome to view the website unless they come back with a different browser. If you want to show you support there is an option to upload your logo and get a link back to your website.

End 6

http://www.end6.org/

End 6 is a simple site that has a clear message and option to download a script that displays a prompt to upgrade or change your browser. There is a section for frequently asked questions and a list of sites that are currently using the script.

Browse Happy

http://browsehappy.com/

Browse Happy is a website created by the Web Standards Project in August 2004 to convince internet users to use a web browser other than IE6. It focuses on security issues in Internet Explorer and suggests four alternatives: Mozilla FirefoxOperaSafari and the Mozilla Suite. The core of the site is a collection of stories of people who have switched from Internet Explorer to alternative web browsers. The well know Blogging platform Wordpress now owns Browse Happy.

Dear IE6

http://dearie6.com/

Dear IE6 is a unique concept linked to Twitter. You can show your support by following @DearIE6 and then replying to them with your anti IE6 message. The site will automatically update with your Tweet.

This website has some great information and includes a blog that is updated regularly by the sites owner, M. Dave Auayan.

Drop IE6

http://drop-ie6.dk/

Danish site  inspired by the anti IE conglomerate of Norwegian newspapers has some useful CSS fixes to override the IE6 bugs.

Stop Living In The Past

http://www.stoplivinginthepast.com/

This site is a contribution to the large and growing movement started by a conglomerate of Norwegian newspapers to finally phase out Microsoft’s ancient (in internet terms anyway) Internet Explorer 6 browser. There is some very interesting and funny information on this website.

Stop IE6

http://stopie6.com/

Stop IE6 is a fun styled website that provides some basic information and some useful message prompts samples which tell you to upgrade.

Well there you have it, a list of all the anti IE6 websites. If you feel any contempt to the antique browser I urge you to visit these sites and show your support. Ill try and update this post with any other websites I come across and if you know of any other please let me know. Thank you for featuring our website in there too and of course for spreading the word about this big campaign that it seems to get to an end since IE6 is going really down for the past months.
